Following an increase in the competition in Pakistan’s Telecom Industry, it shouldn’t come as a shock when Zong planned to make an additional investment of $200 million in the current fiscal year. The move seems to be a part of company’s bigger plan to create traction among the subscribers across the country to switch to its platform.
It is worth mentioning that the telecom giant had already invested approximately $ 2 billion in the preceding years and was the first to introduce 3G and 4G services in the country. The recent moves made by the company indicates that it is pretty serious towards retaining its position in the telecom industry.
The main aim of the company behind making additional investment is to expand its network by adding 3G and 4G sites which are poised to hit the highest mark of 10,500 by the end of this year. Following a merger deal between Mobilink and Warid, the competition in the telecom industry has surged significantly.
Many analysts believe that Zong is making efforts to offer improved services to its subscribers in order to position itself as a dominant force in the telecom industry.
“China Mobile Pakistan (Zong) has reaffirmed its stated commitment of adding more investment in Pakistan in the coming years,” the company said in a statement. “The company announced another USD $200 million investment in Pakistan at its annual business conference, which was the biggest telecom event of the year so far.”
As per the data revealed by PTA, Mobilink-Warid is currently leading the telecom industry with approximately 41 million subscribers as of December 2016. In addition, Zong holds the second spot with almost 27 million subscribers, followed by Telenor that has 40 million subscribers and Ufone with 19 million subscribers.
It is pretty evident that Zong is making efforts to conjure more market share in the telecom industry. In any case, we’ll keep a track on the upcoming trends of the company to keep our readers up to date.
