Sindh Chief Minister. Syed Murad Ali Shah, asked the management of Karachi Electric (KE) to improve the supply, transformation and distribution system in order to provide uninterrupted power supply to Karachiites. The Chief Minister said this while talking to a delegation of the new management of KE, which was led by Vice President, Xia Meixing, along with CFO Chen Wenhao, Head of Project Shi Mingwei, and other senior officials from Shanghai Electric.
Many analysts believe that KE is in a dire need to upgrade its entire system including generation, transformation and distribution. “You will have to reduce the tariff and will have to give special incentives to the people living in slum areas and katchi abadis so that every consumer can pay the bill,” the Chief Minister said.
Over the past few months KE has been taking steps which indicates that the power utility is making efforts to offer improved service to its consumers. For instance, it was reported earlier this month that the power utility decided to take stringent actions against payment defaulters and electricity theft.
The Chief Minister also said that he was working hard to generate electricity using different sources. For instance, a power project at Nooriabad will generate 100 MegaWatts (MW) in the coming year. “I have requested the federal government to provide gas so that its capacity could be made double and the center has assured for the purpose,” he said.
