The verdict that many were anticipating has been announced. 3-time Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif has been declared ineligible to hold public office by Supreme Court of Pakistan in a unanimous decision by a bench of 5 judge .
Supreme Court Justice Asif Saeed Khosa commenced the court’s proceeding on the Panama Papers case shortly after 12:00 pm. After offering apologies for the delay, he asked Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan to take the podium.
The brief of the decision is as follows:
- All materials collected by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) will be sent to accountability court within six weeks.
- Cases will be opened against the Sharif family with a verdict announced in the next 30 days.
- More importantly, the SC disqualified the PM from his position, ruling that he had been dishonest to the parliament and the courts.
