Prime Minister’s Adviser on Aviation, Sardar Methab Ahmed Khan said that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) should operate purely on commercial grounds and must follow cost cutting approach to reduce the overall spending.
The adviser stressed that modern technologies must be implemented at every level to increase profits and efficiency. The management of national carrier is already facing multiple charges of corruption, which the adviser pointed out as the biggest obstacle in achieving the desired objectives.
Sardar Mehtab expressed his opinion on the matter while attending a meeting at the commercial department of PIA. The Acting Chief Commercial Officer Tahir Niaz briefed the adviser about the functions and operations of various departments. The Secretary of Aviation and Acting Chairman of PIA Irfan Elahi also attended the meeting.
Furthermore, the adviser stressed on the need to employ effective marketing strategies, which he believes would help in improving the image of national flag carrier. While highlighting the importance of input of employees, he advised that employees should be encouraged to bring new and innovative ideas to improve the performance and services of PIA.
Sardar Mehtab urged the commercial department of PIA to enhance coordination with the engineering and maintenance department in order to reduce maintenance related delays and cancellations. He said that flight scheduling should also be optimized to reduce the cost associated with it as much as possible. The commercial department should also improve the quality and customer service within three months to make PIA’s signature visible, he added.
