Over the last decade, Pakistan has been struggling to entice tourists to visit the country amid volatile political and security situation in the country. However, the security condition in the country has improved tremendously over the past three to four years. It is recently reported that Karachi in the list of the most dangerous cities of the world has dropped from 3rd spot to 31st. Nevertheless, to boost tourism in the country, Embassy of Pakistan in Canada is planning to organize “Pakistan Tourism Conference” in Canada in a bid to highlight the hidden potential and beauty of the country.
As per the Canadian Ambassador, Tariq Azim, the conference will be attended by several renowned Canadian outbound tour operators and stakeholders. Also, Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) managing director, Abdul Ghafoor, said the government of Pakistan is totally committed towards the development and promotion of tourism industry in the country. In addition, experts believe that such kind of initiatives will help in changing the perception of foreign tourists about Pakistan.
Interestingly, the drop in the rate of street crimes and mugging incidents in the country has helped in pushing the tourism industry to move towards a positive direction. To be more specific, it was reported that approximately one million tourists, including local and foreigners, visited the northern areas of Pakistan during last summer. It is also worth mentioning that Pakistan is the home to world’s largest mountains and glaciers, which surely offers a tremendous attraction for adventurers.
It wouldn’t be wrong to say that tourism is amongst one of the neglected industries in Pakistan. However, the current regime has started working hard to promote the industry in Pakistan. “We intend to invite Sikh Community from Canada to visit Pakistan to perform their religious rituals.” Chaudhry Ghafoor said in a statement.
In any case, we believe that the government’s initiative to set up Pakistan Tourism Conference in Canada is a great initiative to help promote country’s image in the global market.
