Over the past few years, Pakistan has emerged as a nation that offers numerous incentives predominantly in the digital industry to both local and foreign investors. Moreover, this goes without saying that smartphones have played a crucial role in elevating the standards of the country’s digital industry. This being said, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Pakistan imported telecom products worth $1,355,891 million during the last fiscal year.
Subsequently, the figure mentioned above represents a nominal drop of 0.38% when compared to the imports of the last fiscal year. According to the data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the telecom imports during the preceding year stood at $1,361.127 million.
The mobile phone imports into the country were recorded at $709.690 million compared to the imports of $753.224 million, the data revealed.
Nevertheless, the imports of other telecom apparatus experienced a surge of 6.3% by growing from $607.903 million last year to $646.201 million during 2016-17.
Furthermore, on Year-on-Year (YoY) basis, the total telecom imports into the country plunged by 1.58% in June 2017 compared to June 2016. Specifically, the telecom imports in June 2017 were recorded at $102.796 million compared to the imports of $104.441 million. Adding to that, on Month-on-Month (MoM) basis, the telecom imports witnessed a drop of 12.6% in June 2017 when compared to imports of $117.618 million in May 2017.
