Today, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) slashed power tariff by PKR 1.70 for July 2017. The tariff has been reduced due to falling oil prices in the international market.
The tariff has been reviewed and reduced following the public hearing in which the Central Power Purchasing Agency offered a proposal to reduce the tariff by PKR 1.70 per unit for the month of July. Also, it is pertinent to note that the revised rates will not be applicable to the customers of K-Electric (KE).
For those who are wondering, the cost of electricity generation for the month of July was PKR 4.78 per unit. However, customers had to pay PKR 6.49 per unit in the electricity bills for July.
Moreover, it is important to note that NEPRA announced to slash the power tariff for the month of July after the power producing firms submitted their accounting reports in which they showed the original prices of durance oil, high speed diesel, and other resources being consumed in order to generate electricity. Adding to that, the power companies also mentioned the difference in cost of production.
