It appears that the tech giant, Google, is quite serious to make “made by Google” label a success. By launching Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones, Google is trying to warn other tech companies and consumer electronics manufacturers that the company is still in the game and does not want to back down.
With aluminum/glass split design, Google tried to give them a unique and futuristic look but did not divert much from its last year’s theme. If you’re wondering, the glass has no use but to increase the overall aesthetic appeal of the phones. The metal used does not give a premium feel like Apple’s phones.
Like their predecessors, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have fingerprint scanners on the back and top left space is occupied by single rear facing cameras.
Pixel 2 comes with chunky edges around the display screen, similar to last year’s phones. On the contrary, Pixel 2 XL is not a “bezel-less” smartphone, like Samsung Galaxy Note 8, but you will find significantly reduced edges. The Pixel 2 XL, with its slimmer bezels and 18:9 screen, looks more modern than Pixel 2. In fact, the most striking thing about Google is its decision to make two completely different phones.
Moreover, both smartphones have amazing cameras. The Pixel 2 XL has a camera lens in the corner, followed by the LED flash, which looks pretty neat. The Pixel 2 has LED flash in the corner of the phone, too, which pushes the giant camera lens in the center.
Google removed the headphone jack, which tech experts believe is the biggest drawback of the phones. Also, both smartphones use Android 8.0 with some custom software and features.
Interestingly, the squeeze feature might be the most favorite feature of the phone for tech enthusiasts. Similar to HTX U 11, both smartphones have pressure sensitive sides, which means that a simple squeeze will activate the Google Assistant in the phones.
