Easypaisa, Telenor Pakistan’s Mobile Financial Services Division that the company launched back in 2009, is rumored to have been in the middle of parting ways with the wireless telecom operator. Rumor has it that Easypaisa, which was Telenor’s property up till now, is being acquired by Tameer Bank.
It is important to mention here that Tameer Bank was fully acquired by Telenor Group few months ago. The news has brought the mobile operator under limelight as the balance sheets of Easypaisa will now be visible under Tameer Bank, not under Telenor Pakistan. In addition, the day-to-day operations of Easypaisa will now be singularly managed by Tameer Bank. To be more specific, Easypaisa will have nothing to do with Telenor Pakistan after restructuring that is still under way.
It is also rumored that Ali Chaudhry, the President of Tameer bank, will head Easypaisa division and will report directly to Telenor Group. Also, it is safe to assume that once the restructuring is done, Easypaisa will probably have its own PR and digital agency along with other vendors that it may need to run its day to day operations.
Moreover, the employees of Easypaisa may continue to use Telenor Pakistan’s office space in some cities and Telenor will now be charging Easypaisa for it the same way it does for other sister companies such as Telenor LDI.
It is worth mentioning that information above is based solely on rumors and the mobile operator itself has not confirmed or denied the rumors as yet. Hence, readers are advised to use the information as a pinch of salt and more concrete information is expected to be revealed soon.
