The rapidly changing landscape of the ride hailing industry in Pakistan has intensified the competition between the firms and companies are now trying to attract and retain customers by introducing unique and innovative services for riders as well as for drivers. It appears that Careem is stepping up its game, as the company recently introduced in-ride insurance facility that will cover both riders and captains.
It seems that the company has made road safety a top priority after realizing that the road infrastructure of the country is in miserable condition and accidents happen frequently. Incidents have been reported in the past that affected not only cars but customers and drivers as well.
Interestingly, the new in-ride insurance facility of Careem covers customers and drivers for injuries, body disability and accidental death in the event of an accident. Adding to that, the new policy applies across the 10 cities in the country where Careem is operating. Alongside Pakistan, Careem introduced this service in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and several other markets. It seems that the ride hailing firm is pretty serious towards achieving its market ventures in Pakistan.
It is pertinent to note that there are certain situations where policy will not cover the rider or the captain. For instance, a captain/rider will not be able to claim the insurance if he is driving/riding under the influence of drugs, alcohol etc. Also, the insurance policy does not cover TukTuk (rickshaws) and scooters as of yet.
The move conveys the message that Careem is concerned about the well-being of its customers and captains. This latest initiative by Careem compliments its overall approach towards security and safety and it works well along with the existing measures in place – such as captain training, running background checks and car inspections.
This is not the only feature that the company introduced to enhance safety of its customers. Other in-app safety features include “Track My Ride” – a feature that enables customers to share their ride path with family and friends – and “Call Masking” – a feature that enables customers to anonymously call their captains without sharing their personal number.
“We will never compromise on the well-being of our customers and captains. Through this in-ride insurance initiative we are taking important steps to captains and passengers.” Junaid Iqbal, MD Careem Pakistan. “This is the most tailored policy in our country and we are happy to give some peace of mind to Careem’s captains and customers,” he added.
